Wow! What can I say. Last night’s NCAA Championship game was one of the most exciting sports contests I’ve ever seen. Highly competitive, well played, thrilling down to the final second.
I grew up outside Philadelphia, and although I wasn’t a fan of Villanova growing up, I was definitely rooting for them last night. Carolina was clearly the favorite and they were hitting those three-point shots like clockwork. I thought Villanova was doomed.
Both teams played their hearts out and left everything out on the floor. When Marcus Paige hit that ridiculous three-pointer with 4.7 seconds left, I thought the Tar Heels were destined to win. They were by most accounts considered the better team. What a thrilling finish. I sat there stunned. Sports really is the best reality television. You never know what you’ll see next.
On a side note, as opposed to the lack of class shown by so-called “professionals” like Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, the Tar Heels players and coaching staff showed tremendous composure and class in the post-game interviews. They may be kids and amateurs, but they acted professionally in every sense of the word. There were no losers in last night’s game. Just winners in my mind.
