Big to-do this morning. I was drinking my coffee and watching a little TV this morning about 4:30 AM when I started to hear the sirens. They kept getting louder and as I glanced through the shutters on the front windows, I could see lights flashing. As I walked out the door to see what was going on, there were four police vehicles outside my front door.
I heard someone scream, “come out with your hands up.” I thought about getting closer to the action, but the prudent thing to do was to go back inside my house. I called the Sheriff’s Department to see what was going on, and they said they couldn’t tell me very much, but there were guns involved and I should stay indoors until it’s safe.
More and more squad cars showed up as did the SWAT team. There were about 10 or 12 police vehicles and my street was cordoned off. Evidently, a suspect led police on a chase and not realizing we lived on a cul-de-sac, turned into our street. He was cornered two houses to my right. The standoff lasted a couple hours or so and fortunately for those of us that live on this block, no residents were injured. Unfortunately, the suspect committed suicide.
Pretty crazy day. My house on TV from the helicopter!
